Break down the break down

Teaching the effects of medication on mental health.

Is mental health getting out of hand in our communities?

What are the resolutions to lowering mental health and eradicating its presence.

If you are a risk to the public unknowingly and uncontrollably you are most likely to be sedated.

Sedated means

calm (someone) or make them sleep by administering a sedative drug.

"she was heavily sedated"

Sedative drugs are to erase the risk factor of you harming yourself or others. Although sedative drugs may have its benefits it also has traumatising disadvantages.

Unfortunately the subject of the effects of the medication is not something that is wide spread among our communities so seeing a patient will cause alarm as you are not educated to what has taken place, and the same would go so even more for the patient who will be having reactions the body is not used to and if not educated on the effects prior it will have a traumatising effect on the patient themselves and the community to where the patient belongs.

Anti psychotic or sedative medicines are mostly going to be used in this situation.  These drugs will slow down the patient.

The problem we are having is that the support system that they need to understand mental health, build positive coping mechanisms and understand there triggers so they will not repeat themselves are not in place as much as needed. In most cases you would want to blame the system but in this case it is not the system failing but humanity themselves falling into a state of mental illness in alerting numbers. Laziness, heartbreak, continuous sinning are some factors which lead to mental illness. Injustice, mistreatment, death can also lead to mental Illness when people do not understand life situations.

Mental disorders, also known as mental illnesses, are a range of conditions that impact a person's mood, thinking, and behavior. They can cause distress and make it difficult to function in social, work, or family settings. Mental disorders can be chronic and affect anyone regardless of age, sex, background, or ethnicity.

“People living in London and the south have more negative attitudes towards people with mental health problems than those living in other areas of England. Improving attitudes towards mental health among the general public could lead to better outcomes for people experiencing mental illness, but there is evidence that stigmatising attitudes persist.”

We as a whole need to be more understanding, more supportive and not so fast to shun away people with mental illness. I can speak from experience living with an older sister who is still up to this day dealing with mental illness that this situation is not joking matter and has a ripple effect on the whole community and indefinitely the family, causing confusion, disunity at the least.

“The mind - while it’s strong it’s very fragile”

As black man we wait until we get to breaking point before we seek help. Some of us still neither do or intend to seek help after as this may be due to not knowing you need the help or it may be of choice.

Although powerful, mental health drugs are designed for specific conditions and it is important to take them as directed, stopping the medication can be dangerous. Side effects can include: headaches, dizziness, nausea, weight gain, dry mouth, cramps, loss of sex drive and sleep problems. So it is very very important to know once you are survived to a dose of the medication to complete it as prescribed and follow the instructions to a T to get the proper healing. Ie; no alcohol or drugs while on medication. I myself have seen this in the flesh from a family member and the result is detrimental.

A rapid tranquilliser can knock you out for 24-48hours. The majority of patients do not make it back from this medication….

If I can’t reach my sister, I can at least educate myself and possibly others.

My sister was sedated because she defended herself from an assault, she has never been the same since.
